Social Playground Monheim
In the heart of Monheim Mitte, Danish artist Jeppe Hein has created an extraordinary work of art on Eierplatz square: the Social Playground Monheim is a combination of playground and water feature. It’s art that children can enjoy and that invites them to touch and interact with it.
A colorful playground for young and old alike
Art you can play with? Yes, and that’s something that’s expressly encouraged here! Bright yellow street lamps and benches rise from bright green rubber flooring. Their whimsically curved shapes transform them into exciting climbing objects, slides and swings. The colorfully planted border with seating invites parents or passers-by to linger a while and marvel at the place. Children can also sit and take a breather here between playing and climbing on the artworks. A fantastic place in the truest sense of the word!
Playing with water
Directly adjacent to the playground is a walk-in water pavilion. The alternating and irregularly rising fountains are arranged in overlapping ovals, thus humorously referring to the name of the square: Eierplatz is German for “Egg Square”. The square is not only the place where eggs are sold twice a week at the weekly market. The entire square is also egg-shaped. In Jeppe Hein’s artistic water feature, fine walls of water keep rising and falling. Who can get through them without getting wet? It's not just children who are intrigued, even adults try to move skillfully through the water fountains. Visitors are guaranteed to have fun and playful encounters here.
