Sports boxes – new in Monheim am Rhein
Sports boxes for free fun and games
What if you could play a round of table tennis, have a basketball match or simply kick a ball around during your trip to Monheim am Rhein without having to bring your own bat and ball? You can now borrow all the gear you need – along with even more games and sports equipment – in one of three sports boxes. Viking chess and boules are also available.
The sports boxes are solar-powered cabinets containing various sports equipment, exercise-friendly resources and games. Sports enthusiasts can borrow everything they need via an app.
Locations of the sports boxes
You’ll find the sports boxes in the Rheinbogen Landscape Park on Kapellenstrasse, in the green corridor that runs from north to south (Berlin Quarter), and in the Ataşehir Park in Baumberg. The boxes are all have slightly different themes.
Balls, rackets, Viking chess, keep fit equipment and more
The green spaces and streetball court in the Rheinbogen Landscape Park are ideal for enjoying recreational sports and games. That’s why children, young people and families can find the right equipment in the sports box on Kapellenstrasse.
It contains various balls and sling trainers, as well as Viking chess pieces and a boules ball set for the boules court nearby.
The sports boxes in the Berlin district and in Baumberg, on the other hand, mainly contain functional fitness training equipment. Besides exercise mats and vinyl kettlebells, it also has recreational sports gear such as frisbees and table tennis bats.
Sustainability and Fairtrade
The cabinets storing the sports equipment are made of 100% recycled concrete and metal; they have a charging socket for mobile devices and the soundbox it contains. This can also be used during the loan period.
A solar cell protected by acrylic glass on the top means that the system powers itself.
As a Fairtrade city, Monheim am Rhein is committed to ensuring that the boxes are equipped with fairly produced and fairly traded beach volleyballs, basketballs and footballs.
Borrowing with the Sportbox app
At present, sports fans still need the Sportbox app to borrow equipment. Anyone can register here free of charge and then open the sports box with their smartphone during the time they booked. There are detailed instructions on the outside of the sports boxes. The Sportbox app will soon also be integrated into the Monheim Pass app.
