Stepahn Kaluza "Rheinprojekt"

August 30 to October 13, 2024 – Kulturraffinerie-K714 parking garage

The Rhine flows through the parking garage - with photo artist Stephan Kaluza and his Monheim "Rheinprojekt". The exhibition is organized by Monheimer Kulturwerke, a municipal subsidiary.

Das Rheinprojekt: The whole Rhine in one picture

Stephan Kaluza walked along the Rhine for nine months, taking a photo every 90 meters. The result: 13 full hard disks with more than 50,000 photos. These were compiled by the artist into a coherent image and are now presented in an exhibition spanning 800 meters in the parking garage of the Kulturraffinerie K714.

Unique exhibition in Monheim am Rhein

Only in the Kulturraffinerie K714 parking garage on Rheinparkallee can visitors follow the approximately 1,700-kilometer-long course of the Rhine from its source in Switzerland to its estuary in the North Sea in the Netherlands. Just as the Rhine makes its way, the exhibition of photographs now winds its way through the parking garage. Before Stephan Kaluza, no one had ever documented the entire banks of the Rhine in photographs.

Paintings with sections of the Rhine created especially for Monheim am Rhein

Especially for the exhibition in Monheim am Rhein, Kaluza has created two oversized photo-realistic paintings with sections of the Rhine. In another work commissioned by Monheimer Kulturwerke, he painted the Kulturraffinerie K714.

A special exhibition venue - the Kulturraffinerie K714 parking garage

Parking garages are normally used for parking. But why not also for art? The Monheim Kulturwerke, as the organizer, is known for unusual exhibitions in unusual artistic locations. The parking garage of the future event venue of the Kulturraffinerie K714 is once again an unusual space for the large exhibition "Das Rheinprojekt". The exhibition artistically complements the parking garage with its unique appearance on the outside and makes it accessible and tangible in a completely different context.
