"Altweiber" on Carnival Thursday in Monheim am Rhein
"Altweiber" is the start of the street carnival in Monheim am Rhein. Celebrations take place from Cranival Thursday to Rose Monday.
The old town is a central point of the carnival events. Cologne bands such as the Grüngürtelrosen, Rhythmussportgruppe and Rabaue create a great atmosphere on the old market square.
The storming of the City Hall
The storming of the City Hall is the start of the carnival season and a real spectacle for all carnival fans. On Carnival Thursday, the Monheim City Hall is traditionally conquered by the Monheim carnival clubs and other carnival fans. The City Hall is stormed with a lot of laughs, fun and a pinch of wit as the carnivalists symbolically take over and kick off the carnival season.

Carnival in the streets of the Old Town
After the storming of the City Hall, the celebrations continue in the Old Town. The stage program starts at 11 a.m. In addition to the Monheim prince and princess and the various Monheim and Baumberg guards, a number of Cologne carnival bands also perform in Monheim's Old Town.
