Urdenbacher Kämpe Nature Reserve
In this very special place, nature is still allowed to take its course. In the Urdenbacher Kämpe Nature Reserve, between the major conurbations of Cologne and Düsseldorf, the Rhine is still allowed to flood its floodplains and isn’t prevented from doing so by dikes – as is the case almost everywhere else. A real rarity! Old orchards, atmospheric water landscapes, rare wet meadows and enchanted floodplain woods are home to some special flora and fauna.
The Urdenbacher Kämpe Nature Reserve is best discovered on a guided hike, such as those offered by the Biological Station at Haus Bürgel. The Auenblicke hiking trail network has the right route for every taste (between 3 and 10 kilometers) that you can explore on your own. In addition, certified Auen-Erlebnis (Floodplain Experience) guides offer guided tours and events on various topics.
Overview of the Auenblicke hiking trails on Monheim city territory:

- Auenblicke Discovery Trail (10 km)
