Neanderlandsteig Trail

The Neanderlandsteig is a circular hiking trail in the Neanderland region (district of Mettmann). It is about 240 kilometers long, and its stages 13 (15.7 km) and 14 (15.2 km) also lead through Monheim am Rhein. Going past the natural beauty and sights of the city, it takes hiking enthusiasts from the north of Monheim through the natural floodplain woods in the Urdenbacher Kämpe Nature Reserve, along the Rhine Promenade, past the jetty of the Piwipper Böötchen ferry and through the bend of the Rhine, the “Rheinbogen,” to the southern limits of the city.

Discovery Trails

Two shorter circular trails branch off from the Neanderlandsteig Trail and take you to several tourist highlights. The Monheim Discovery Trail (4.8 km) connects the nature experience offered by the Rheinbogen Landscape Park with exciting sights such as the Marienburg Park, the quaint old part of town and the modern new town center Monheim Mitte.

The Baumberg Discovery Trail (8.1 km) meanders from the cozy town center of Baumberg to the unique floodplain landscapes of the Urdenbacher Kämpe Nature Reserve, past the former Roman fort of Haus Bürgel and the Eel Fishing Museum in the listed Aalschokker eel fishing boat to the heart of the town, which will be redesigned in 2022, with a host of shopping and gastronomic options.
