Come on board and experience, with all your senses, the history of eel fishing in Monheim am Rhein – on and below deck. The catching and smoking of eels and other fish were important parts of the town’s economy for a long time.

Until the 1990s, there were several smokehouses,
including one on Klappertorstrasse, where the historic eel fishing
boat once again calls "Ship ahoy!"

Were the Goose Girl (an emblem of Monheim) and the minstrel, the Spielmann, really a couple? History is silent on this matter, but every year in September, the minstrel comes to Monheim again from the other side of the Rhine!
